Ecstatic Music Festival 2014!

I’m extremely excited to get the 2014 Ecstatic Music Festival (which I’ve had the privilege of curating for the fourth year) underway this weekend with two concerts. First, tonight (Friday night), the WNYC Greene Space will host a special kickoff event featuring a collaboration between Hospitality and Pannonia (the latter a string quartet from Face the Music, Kaufman Music Center’s teen new music ensemble). On Saturday night, we’ll begin the main series at our 67th Street home in Merkin Concert Hall, with Bright Wave and Dawn of Midi.

As always, collaboration is central to the festival, with each concert featuring artists working together on new music. There’s no specific theme or undercurrent to the festival, beyond this core organizing principle, and I think the range of artists this year is wider than ever. I was interviewed by Helga Davis at WNYC last week and we had a very interesting conversation that brought out some important questions and issues that I consider when curating the festival, and beyond, interspersed with music by a few of the artists who will be appearing this year:

The festival runs through the end of March, with 9 concerts at Merkin Hall and one at Carnegie Hall. A complete list of shows is below, with much more information at I hope you’ll come join us if you’re in the New York City area!
