I’m in Rotterdam for Classical:NEXT, a conference for forward-thinking classical and new music organizations from around the world. I’ll be speaking on a few panels: “Creating the Plug & Play: The New Collectives” and “New Music, New Media and the Musician Entrepreneur,” as well as attending a “Global Indieclassical Network Meeting” (Term Alert!) and generally repping New Amsterdam and the other projects I help run.
I’m excited to meet a wide variety of broadly-thinking and open-minded artists and administrators. Most of my meetings are with leaders of European organizations, and it’s always interesting to see the areas of overlap and difference between our scenes. One of my goals for the week is to help bridge the gap between the continents. It’s a strange divide but very real.
